We are starting to line up a few craft shows/festivals for the coming year. First up is the states best, the 47th annual East Lansing Art Festival, May 22nd and 23rd. 70,000 to 80,000 attend annually.
Next, we were contacted by Ben Cohen of the Free Music Festival because he loved our shirts, so we will be at our first music festival June 12th in Freeland. Looks to me like an EXCELLENT music lineup, and family fun with great people.

Winter is setting in; it has FINALLY slowed down at the store, so I have a chance to review our first 6 months in business, review numbers, examine what has worked and not worked, make adjustments, and set goals for the new year. Everyone seems very excited to have discovered our shirts, and I am committed to growing my business, so expect a lot of growth, fun, new designs, and new products in 2010. More to come soon as I catch my breath and reload for the next stage!!

10-22
Quite a few people are returning to the store to purchase shirts after purchasing earlier in the summer at our new store or at a festival booth. I am really tickled that people are really enjoying wearing the shirts, often telling me the person they got it for wear's it all the time and it is their favorite shirt. I want my customers to be happy, and this bodes well for our long term prospects....

We hope to continue to introduce our great shirts to future customers by attending the art and craft shows where we first introduced our shirts and received a great response. Betsy Fletcher Merritt is a real "people" person who likes our shirts, and hopefully you may meet her at a show yet this fall. Perhaps you met her this past weekend at the Saline Harvest of the Arts near Ann Arbor...

9-25
We received about 3 weeks straight of heavenly, 75 degree weather with hardly a cloud in the sky. Most people commented that it seemed like summer was finally here!! I took as many "mini-vacations" as I could to clear my head with walks along our beautiful Grand Traverse Bay.

9-16
Rob Serbin, realtor extraordinaire (and Traverse Area Association Realtor of the year), wears his classic "Simplefly" shirt on the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk Labor Day weekend. It was Rob's first bridgewalk, wearing one of our first (since retired) designs, and yesterday was Rob's granddaughter's first birthday...  Thanks for the photo Rob!

Our first kids shirt has been added to our products page. Also, just in time for fall, what we think is the best Michigan hooded sweat ever made; our Heaven on Earth design on plush heavy cotton, at a great price....

Really enjoyed meeting customers Dave and Kathy, who were on a needed break from work downstate. Kathy has worked retail for 30 years, mostly clothing, and loved our shirts, as well as the ladies blue zip hoodie we will have online soon. I had to tell her to stop re-folding the shirts and go relax while I folded them!! Thanks for your purchase and I enjoyed our visit very much! (good luck muskie fishing, Dave, and I should have had you in the picture too!)

8-17
One Up Web, based here in Traverse City, is taking a cool looking road trip through Michigan to help companies with their websites and promote good old Michigan, so I dropped off a few of our Heaven On Earth Michigan shirts for their journey.

Summer in Traverse City, one of our favorite customers spotted around the corner hanging out at Good Harbor Coffee (shoeless and looking very relaxed, I might add)

6-17
Incredibly soft organic cotton t-shirts in the store within about one week; and the best news is that they will be priced similarly to our ringspun cotton shirts. Organic cotton t-shirts are grown without pesticides and fertilizers. Two things for you to know:
1) organic t-shirts usually cost a fair amount more than non-organic t-shirts (using fertilizers and chemicals speeds growing time and produces  higher yields), but ours will  be very close to the price of our ringspun cotton t-shirts.
2) Organic cotton t-shirts are perhaps the softest shirt you have ever touched!

Thanks to all for making our Michigan State weekend a smashing success. You purchased 200 shirts (!) in our 2 days there, and I really enjoyed meeting everyone and hopefully gaining customers for life.
I am busy day and night trying to open our first store in downtown TC this weekend, restocking shirts, and updating the website. Thanks for your patience, I am excited and full of great ideas for your future enjoyment....

Peande in Taiwan
World traveler and disc golf guru "Nez" Nesbitt can't help but grin as he gets a break from business in Taiwan and heads out in his Peande Persistence and Determination shirt.

Even though we are predicted to receive another 4 to 8 inches of snow today, and 4 to 8 more tomorrow, we are getting ready for spring with new shirt colors and new designs including a new ladies style shirt and a soft organic cotton shirt!
Well, off to shovel, the new styles should be here in around 2 weeks!

Thank you to all who shopped with us at Sterling Heights this past Saturday. You got great deals, and we sold/cleared out close to 100 shirts! The comment I heard over and over, besides the comment that the prices were super, was "these are nice shirts". Hope to return to Sterling Heights in late November.
I had a great trip, visiting my friends Pad, Holly, and baby Henry, then visiting a few friends on the way home when I stopped to hear my brother's country band in the metropolis of Edenville.
2-5
This weekend we will be at the Clearance Crafters Show in Sterling Heights. Perhaps this will become an annual tradition, as it is an opportunity for us to clear out overstocks, trial runs, unprinted shirts etc. This should be a great opportunity for our customers as everything is priced from $3.50 to $6.50 to make way for new styles, as they say!
Go to www.craftersclearance.com for directions, and hope to see you Saturday, Feb 7, from 10 until 4

P.S.  look here very soon for new styles and upcoming shows, including the Crafters Clearance Show Feb 7 in Sterling Heights where we will be clearing out leftovers at ridiculous prices.

Where I live 2
Came across this pic I took this summer about 25 miles from my house and thought I would post it since there is no snow in it... Northern Michigan is the best
Our special for newsletter subscribers is good through December 19. We are selling out of a few styles (Dunworkin, Logo on colored shirt) and a few sizes here and there. Looking forward to restocking soon.

12-11
Here is the table that I was refinishing in a pic below (11-17). It is now displaying shirts at Annies, downtown Traverse City. Stop in, customers have been picking up lots of shirts for gifts! Friday, 12-12, is Midnight Madness in downtown TC; we will have in-store specials after 6:00 P.M.

12-2
Had an enjoyable time at The Frankfort Holly Berry Craft Show Saturday, sold 40 shirts in 6 hours there, I hope everyone enjoys their gifts! Frankfort is on Lake Michigan, about 30 miles West of Traverse City. One of my favorite Michiganders, Gwen Frostic, lived there.
Note our new long sleeve shirts, which by the way are extremely comfortable. Our model enjoyed them too... Look for a couple new styles very soon also.

11-17
I found a cool old table at the Women's Resource Center Thrift Shop today, and am refinishing it for a display table. The top was painted/stained just like the 3 leaves in the photo below, but I sanded the top off by hand  in about an hour. I will sand the leaves too, then put polyurethane on the oak top to bring out the beauty of the wood and the "character marks". My wife Amy will paint the legs, she is good with colors.
This will be my third antique display table. To me, presentation is everything, and a great shirt should have a unique display. I really enjoy restoring old wood, too. It is something I haven't done a lot lately and I am having a ball. I see marks on the old table, and I bet it could tell some cool stories from days gone by if it could talk. All 3 of my display tables at Annies I have done some refinish work to, including one I brought back from the dead from an abandon farmhouse on some property I owned.
While I sanded in the garage, my 10 year old Jared came home from school and shoveled the driveway without being asked to.

11-4
Our first store (within a store) is now open inside Annies, a Traverse City Tradition, downtown on Front Street, in the heart of it all...  Stop in!!

Where I live
Driving to check shirt stock at a customer today, stopped to take this photo of vineyards, forest, and Great Lakes....

10-15
Wine Critic shirts are available in 2 new colors (the "monarch" yellow is a touch warmer than the previous "mustard" yellow). Also, they are now available in small size.
My son, Jared, suggested raking leaves into the shape of our logo, then putting a picture on the website. I may have just found my new marketing manager.... would probably have to raise his allowance...
